Teen Girl Falls In Open Manhole While Texting
Alexa Longueira Suffers Deep Cuts, Bruises After Landing In Raw Sewage, Blames DEP For Leaving Hole Unattended Reporting

Dave Carlin NEW YORK (CBS) ―It was an accident waiting to happen -- an open sewer and a 15-year-old girl who was texting while she walked.

Alexa Longueira, a high school sophomore, was walking along Victory Boulevard near Travis Avenue on Staten Island Wednesday evening when she felt the earth move and was plunged into smelly darkness.

She said the manhole she fell in to was left open and unattended with no warning signs or orange cones. She said two workers with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection failed to secure the area as they prepared to flush the sewer.

I am not sure what a sign off to the side would have done to get the attention of a texting 15 year old.

"It was just really gross and it was shocking and scary," she said. "Because of their careless mistake I got hurt."

Longueira has deep cuts and bruises and said she now has nightmares about falling, but she also did admit she was texting at the time.

"Regardless of whether I'm texting or not if there was a cone there I'm gong to see a big orange cone," she said. "I walk that sidewalk every day, I don't expect a big hole there."

I bet you would not have expected a big orange cone either.

Longueira said she was helped out of the five-foot deep sewer by an apologetic DEP worker.

She went to the hospital and the city opened an investigation, issuing the following statement:

"We regret that this happened and wish the young woman a speedy recovery."

The Longueira family wants more than get well wishes. They may sue. Alexa's mother, Kim, said: "It could have been an elderly person, a mother pushing a stroller. It could have been anyone."

No, it could not have. I am sure that she was not the only person to walk by that hole but she was the only person not paying attention.

Alexa lost one of her sneakers in the sewer. She does not want it back.

Bwahahaha

The girl's mother said Alexa will see more doctors next week to get an MRI and check for damage to her spine.

The paycheck's mother said Alexa will see more doctors next week to get an MRI and check for a potential lawsuit against the city. (fixed)

Former Vice President Al Gore declared that the Congressional climate bill will help bring about “global governance.”

“I bring you good news from the U.S., “Gore said on July 7, 2009 in Oxford at the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment, sponsored by UK Times.

“Just two weeks ago, the House of Representatives passed the Waxman-Markey climate bill,” Gore said, noting it was “very much a step in the right direction.” President Obama has pushed for the passage of the bill in the Senate and attended a G8 summit this week where he agreed to attempt to keep the Earth's temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees C.

Gore touted the Congressional climate bill, claiming it “will dramatically increase the prospects for success” in combating what he sees as the “crisis” of man-made global warming.

“But it is the awareness itself that will drive the change and one of the ways it will drive the change is through global governance and global agreements.”

Moar Girls In The Shower

Too funny.

I'm now becoming adicted. Oh, I meant to pain killers, not these two although they're pretty funny.

Blogger And/Or Internet Explorer 8 Sucks

Okay, I've been trying to post since I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 on Wednesday and I keep getting error messages. I would place the blame squarely on Blogger as this sort of thing has happened to me before, but since I downloaded IE 8 just the day before yesterday the timing seems a bit suspicious. Regardless of who is at fault, I would like to offer my apologies to the three Sniper readers that come here for insightfully insightful insight. As a consolation post, I give you two funny girls in a shower (totally SFW)...

COMPLETELY UNRELATED to story below this

And I mean, both the article I am about to share (which I did NOT find while googling "girls with asses that could cut diamonds) and the author, since whoever our phatasmagorical proxy Tuesday Titillation requester is is not me. Also, I do not watch "The Legend of the Seeker" on Hulu, that this lass may or may not have appeared in.

Anyway, this here is from the world of sports. I will be omitting a word. See if you can guess which one:

World’s strongest _____ breaks own record lifting 14 kilos
7 Jul, 11:33 PM

A Russian woman has set a new world record, lifting a 14-kg. glass ball with her _____ muscles. Tatiata Kozhevnikova of Novosibirsk, aged 42, has been exercising her _______ muscles for fifteen years, and has already made her entrance into the Guinness Book of Records as the possessor of the world’s strongest ____, she proudly told Life.ru.

Well, I for one say "Good on Ya Tatiata! Always strive to be number 1"!

Call Me Sick If You Want To

At first I couldn’t decide if this video was mildly disturbing or riotously funny. The beginning seemed like something a mentally ill patient would have come up with in film school. You’ll have to stomach through the artsy parts.

In the end, I opted for the riotously funny. Would have been better if the film maker skipped the attempt at social commentary and went straight for cartoon critters meeting horrible, yet funny, ends.

Proxy Tuesday One Day Late

This is Bridget Regan. I have no idea who she is, but I was asked to post her by proxy as a Tuesday selection.
She seems both buxom and Irish which, as we all know, is about as lethal as a woman can be (without a bottom that one could cut diamonds on, of course).
The proxy requestor shall remain nameless since I got in trouble last time for mentioning that the Tuesday post was prxy request. But this time it's toooooootally different.

Some nameless face will be in his bunk... playing World of Warcraft.

ULTIMATE WAR PR0N

Okay, watching bad guys get zapped on IR films from helicopter gunships and AC-135s is all well and good… but you haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen the “Infantry Helmet Cam” in operation during a firefight in Afghanistan. These are Brits in contact somewhere in A-stan…

Yeah, like that. If you've never been in the Infantry, you've now gotten a taste of it by proxy.

Awesome.

Cap And Trade

Slitting our own throats based on bad science, hysteria, and blind faith in an amateur messiah.

L'AQUILA, Italy (Reuters) – G8 leaders believe the world economy still faces "significant risks" and may need further help, according to summit draft documents that also reflect failure to agree [to] climate change goals for 2050.

Progress on the environment was impeded by Chinese President Hu Jintao returning home due to unrest in northwestern China in which 156 people have died. Before he left, summit host Silvio Berlusconi spoke of Chinese "resistance" on climate goals.

Documents seen by Reuters before the G8 summit began on Wednesday cautioned that "significant risks remain to economic and financial stability" while "exit strategies" from pro-growth packages should be unwound only "once recovery is assured."

As you see, China isn’t playing the “cut our emissions, cut our own throats” game because they know that the global economy is tenuous at best. Why is it that this administration can’t seem to notice that blaring fact? Since when, in a troubled economy, is it a good idea to tax the hell out of the businesses that are proven and actually making money in order to funnel money into industries that are not proven and do not make money?
